βΆObjectives
In implementing the Deep Network, we aimed to: - Bring together organisers of existing deep Ocean initiatives, so that the marine scientists could learn more about adult education methodologies, and the adult educators could upgrade their scientific knowledge. We know that meeting and exchanging also inspires and motivates future partnerships. - Make sure the adult learnersβ voice was heard by educators and marine institutes β our survey was designed to show which issues would be most effective to spark new learning initiatives with which target groups. It also tells us which marine areas are of zero interest to adults. - Build an online exchange point, where we showcase deep marine practices that inspire, so other people can build on them. Keep regular contact with all network members via meetings and newsletters. - Advocate within the worlds of adult education and of marine science for a user-focused approach to the methodologies and content to inform adults about the impact of a healthy Ocean and their role in delivering this. Share knowledge on 'what works' in deep Ocean learning.
βΆActivities
1a β Deep Network Building: Even past the end of this project, our partnership will continue to support this nascent network by at least twice-yearly meetings. Therefore: β’ DeepNet Hub 1 took place on the 2nd of June 2023 with 29 participants β’ DeepNet Hub 2 took place on the 1st of September 2023 with 25 participants β’ DeepNet Hub 3 took place on the 3rd of November 2023 with 35 participants β’ DeepNet Hub 4 took place on 20th June 2024 with 42 participants β’ DeepNet Hub 5 will take place on 22nd October 2024 1b Survey to profile of the informal adult learner approaching educational material about the ocean: with 106 responses 2- The partnership collated and reviewed 12, detailed inspiring practices of educational material submitted by Deep Network hub members. We undertook a representative peer review process and selected 8 of these to be published in the Inspiring Practice in Deep Ocean Learning, translated into all partner languages. 3- We built and maintained a website, sent 13, monthly newsletters to members, growing our subscriber base from 0 to 93 within the project. We also attended 4 high-level dissemination events and published a book chapter on the project in a Springer Nature SDG publication
