Objectives

The main objective of the S.O.S. project was to exchange good practices among four EU organizations to create forward-looking local learning centers aimed at enhancing the social inclusion of fragile adults—such as women in prison, people with a history of addiction and women with migratory backgrounds. By involving them in community education on sustainability, we aimed to foster both empowerment and reintegration. Through the co-design of inclusive non-formal learning environments, we sought to strengthen European cooperation and enhance staff skills in adult education. The project also aimed to raise awareness on the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability, in line with the 2030 Agenda. By focusing on sustainable food, mobility, and tourism, participants not only developed key green skills but also engaged their local communities through awareness-raising and peer education. Ultimately, the goal was to build inclusive, low-threshold educational spaces that promote active citizenship, equity, and environmental consciousness, while reinforcing the professional and social reintegration of vulnerable groups.

Activities

During the project, we implemented three transnational workshops focusing on key themes of sustainability: sustainable tourism (March 2024), sustainable eating (June 2024), and sustainable mobility (September 2024). These workshops brought together staff and users from all partner organizations to exchange best practices, co-design learning activities, and deepen their understanding of each topic through hands-on experiences. In parallel, each partner organized a series of local events to raise awareness within their communities and further reinforce the knowledge and skills of both staff and participants. These events served as platforms for peer learning and public engagement. Additionally, we developed and disseminated “pills of knowledge”—short, accessible educational resources designed to spread key insights on sustainability topics. These materials were shared both locally and online, helping to extend the project’s impact and encourage broader community participation in sustainability and inclusion efforts.

Impact

The project SOS led to several tangible and intangible results. Among the key material outcomes were the development of training materials focused on sustainable eating, tourism, and mobility, and the creation of an accessible digital platform where resources were shared via the EPALE community https://epale.ec.europa.eu/en/group/171988/erasmus_documents . A dedicated project website was also launched, featuring downloadable content and links to all relevant materials https://linktr.ee/sos.sustainability . Short educational videos—referred to as “pills of knowledge”—were produced and shared on platforms like YouTube and Instagram to reach a broader audience and enhance visibility. On a deeper level, the project significantly enhanced the knowledge and awareness of users regarding sustainability, while simultaneously strengthening the professional competences of social operators working in the field of inclusion. These improvements contributed to greater empowerment, employability, and engagement among participants, while reinforcing the partner organizations' capacities to develop and manage inclusive educational initiatives.
