▶Objectives
1) Teachers: - gain methods to give students reading pleasure and to work on their literary skills in an interactive way, using technology and devices as a tool to bring books in the classroom. - find ways to bring: - reading into the living context of younger students (their homes and peers). - the library to young people. - have methods to deal with some limited children in reading (like dyslexic and foreigners), taking into account inclusion. 2) Student-level: - In the long term, better literacy and better learning results and understanding. - reading is seen as connected to wellbeing, pupils will be happier and more inclined to read. - stimulated intrinsic motivation thanks to technology, easy access to reading (friendly fonts, interactive and inclusive approach to reading) - Non-native pupils experience more and more pleasure in reading in the school language. - new strategies and more tools to approach reading and enjoy it (special needs). - European identity reinforcement. Reading Steps 1-2-3 were planned around LLTAs to give students the chance to meet, share, collaborate. 3) International level enhance collaboration and share of good practice among participants/in a larger context through dissemination.
▶Activities
The ESEP/eTwinning platform has been used for the project. Teachers and students signed up for their own accounts and shared project results and materials. A short joint staff training event was held online having two sessions to approach and discuss among teachers either reading techniques and strategies and the three books that would be read. The planned activities in the 3 Reading Steps were achieved in preparation through the Twinspace and during the LLTA. Reading Step (=RS)1 around the Book Pinocchio by Collodi: expressive reading workshop with a Drama expert, meeting with a local writer and literary scout at the local library, recording session for podcast. RS 2 on “Letter to the King” by Tonke Dragt: bookmarks,creative book recycling workshop, Book Box creative session, visit to book shops RS 3 on “The Tale of the Unkown Island” by J. Saramago: workshop on illustration, international book club session,cooperative writing session : editing of the collaborative texts shared on Twinspace, social media, school websites and articles on reading published on the Book of Methods; study visit to José Saramago’s house and literary work; final questionnaire Throughout the project we managed to write collaborative NewsLetters.
▶Impact
All the results are visible on Twinspace, on the schools’ websites, on the dedicated two social media sites in order to reach different levels and kinds of stakeholders. The podcast on spotify. The concrete outputs were: n.3 newsletters n. 2 questionnaires: on the topic of the project (zero and final questionnaire) a podcast : an expressive reading workshop organized in the RS1 during the first mobility in Italy to record a podcast with the reading of some important extract from “Pinocchio” shared on Spotify a Book Box: a creative workshop was organized in RS 2 during the Belgian mobility and the plan to make a reading box at each school was created. The idea of the box is to gather a collection of books for every partner school to promote reading in the classroom collaborative digital books : on Twinspace and during the mobility in Portugal (RS 3), mixed groups created different texts the book Week events and Book clubs were organized in the different partner schools as well as during the last mobility. an eTwinning project twinspace an etwinning group has been created to share methods and reading experiences among teachers in a bigger dimension, stimulate discussion, exchange practices and disseminate project results.
