ā–¶Objectives

The main objectives of the project were: 1. boosting students motivation to learn Science by: increasing the participants' awareness of importance of learning Science by presenting benefits/advances of science and proving Science helps us understand our world and then improving students performance in Science; making science attractive to young people by presenting science through mysteries, puzzles and great efforts of scientists trying to reveal them and then developing passion for Science. 2. improving students’ skills of teamwork and cooperation by doing project work, 3. increasing the participation of pupils with the greatest educational needs, including children in unfavourable situation (those with limited access to various educational forms due to geographical, economic, health and/or cultural reasons) and those with fewer opportunities, 4. promoting an active citizenship by teaching students how to live with other people creatively as well as by coping with new challenges of living together. Additionally, students developed the ability to ask questions, collect information, organise and test their ideas, solve problems, and apply what they learn.

ā–¶Activities

In the project we implemented the following activities: - Ancient Undiscovered World - students did some research on ancient science and technological achievements, a ppt was prepared. Students investigated the things which are still unexplained in ancient Science. During the activity they discussed the topic , the mysteries and visited Mastic Museum which shows how ancient people produced mastic. - Undiscovered space – students found out about space explorations, they prepared a choice of films and a list of space ā€žissuesā€ waiting to be discovered. They also learnt about things which we use every day and we have them thanks to space exploration. They visited Planaterium in Lisbon too. - Undiscovered human body - students found out about mysteries in human body and presented them as an online quiz/game. They showed body functions in a creative way. They listed the things we are not 100% sure in our bodies. They took part in a workshop with a paramedic. - Unexplained phenomena- students worked on unexplained phenomena, strange ones and presented it as a storytelling activity. They made a presentation about unexplained things in our world. They met with an expert in unexplained phenomena. - Project webpage.

ā–¶Impact

Tangible (concrete) results: 1. Presentations: of the achievements of ancient Science, of space exploration, unexplained phenomena. 2. Presenting the body functions and life process in creative way - as a pantomime, using gesture, body language, pictures, videos-pictures. 3. Presentation of mysteries of ancient Science, space, human body, phenomena. 4. A list of films about space, UFO and a list of things waiting for their discovery. 5. Webpage on Facebook. Intangible results: The is a change in students' attitudes towards Science - they find it important in lives and at school. Participants learnt about ancient civilisations, Space achievements, about human body, life processes and how important the awareness of these processes is. They practised their English and developed digital skills. Students also fostered civic competence and knowledge of social and political concepts and structures (democracy, justice, equality, citizenship and civil rights). They learnt to cooperate, tolerate the differences, understand different customs, lifestyles. These activities were part of curricula of History, Physics, Biology, Geography. The activities, their results were presented to school community and to the local authorities.
