Objectives

By implementing the 'Robotics Curriculum Development' project, we aimed to impact several aspects. Primarily, we wanted to improve the robotics curriculum and create new teaching materials based on research about the real needs of the labor market in the field of robotics in Serbia and Italy. Our idea was, first and foremost, to try to consolidate the results of labor market research in companies in our two partner countries and determine what professional competencies young people who complete secondary education need to possess in order to integrate more quickly and easily into the workforce after finding a job. After obtaining specific information from the industry, the goal was to draw conclusions, translate them into a set of appropriate competencies, and prescribe the educational outcomes necessary to master this field. This knowledge then needed to be translated into a new robotics curriculum, and the ultimate goal of the project was to create teaching materials in the form of a manual that would consolidate all this expertise. Finally, our goal was also to promote robotics as one of the key educational areas of the fourth industrial revolution.

Activities

For this project, Technical School from Pirot applied in order to address some shortcomings in the field of robotics education in secondary vocational schools. Specifically, some of the problems that vocational schools face on a daily basis includes a lack of modern robotics equipment, curricula that are overly focused on theoretical knowledge, the subject of robotics being taught through theoretical classes, fewer hours of robotics instruction than are realistically needed, and a lack of quality teaching materials and robotics work manuals. We observed that the curricula do not provide students with many opportunities to become proficient in robotics work through secondary education, often requiring additional education and training through informal forms of work. We also noticed that our school’s students rarely get jobs in robotics after completing secondary education, leading to a shortage of qualified professionals in this field. Our idea for this project was to try to address some of these shortcomings by connecting partner organizations and promoting robotics by researching labor market needs in partner countries and applying this knowledge in vocational education.
