▶Objectives
With this project, we aimed to improve the inclusion and well-being of children with fewer opportunities, particularly those with migrant backgrounds, learning difficulties, and behavioral challenges. Our goal was to reduce stress factors, enhance psychosocial well-being, and improve students' academic success. We designed innovative forest pedagogy programs that enable experiential learning in natural environments through the use of digital tools, multisensory methods, and practical examples tailored to vulnerable groups. Teachers were trained to deliver outdoor education and adopt innovative and digital teaching methods, ensuring the programs’ sustainable integration into school curricula. Through cross-border collaboration with an Italian school, we promoted intercultural cooperation, appreciation of diversity, and European values. We established outdoor classrooms to facilitate long-term program delivery and raise awareness of sustainable development and nature conservation. The project connected scientific, social, and pedagogical objectives to create lasting positive changes in education.
▶Activities
As part of the project, we implemented key activities to achieve the set objectives. We analyzed the existing state and needs in forest pedagogy within partner schools and designed tailored programs. A 30-hour teacher training was organized, equipping educators with skills for outdoor teaching using innovative and digital methods. Seven forest pedagogy programs were developed for various age groups, including vulnerable children, integrating interactive digital modules. The programs were piloted during nature days and exchanges, collecting feedback for improvements. Existing outdoor classrooms were upgraded, and new ones were established, equipped with educational tools and digital resources. We conducted mobility programs and exchanges, fostering intercultural collaboration among students from partner schools. The results were disseminated through a multilingual handbook, workbooks, and presentations at international events. These activities enabled the sustainable integration of forest pedagogy into regular curricula and raised awareness of nature and sustainable development.
▶Impact
The project delivered a range of tangible results and outputs that will have a lasting impact on educational processes and environmental awareness. We developed seven forest pedagogy programs for students of different age groups, including vulnerable children. The programs incorporate digital modules and innovative learning approaches, such as interactive tasks and multisensory learning. The piloted programs were evaluated and adapted based on feedback. We produced a handbook with worksheets, available in three languages (Slovenian, English, Italian), featuring examples of best practices and implementation guidelines. Outdoor classrooms were upgraded with educational tools and digital resources to ensure long-term use in schools. We conducted two successful international exchanges for students, fostering intercultural collaboration and understanding. The project results were presented at international events, published on the websites of participating partners, and shared with other schools in Slovenia. This ensures the dissemination of best practices and opportunities for further collaboration. The project outcomes have been integrated into the annual curricula of participating schools.
