▶Objectives
Through the Productivity4.0 project, we wanted to achieve several key objectives. Our primary goal was to develop innovative and digital skills in vocational education and training (VET) by integrating lean manufacturing and digital transformation into the curriculum. By creating open-access digital training materials, we aimed to enhance digital learning and teaching, making VET more attractive and effective. We also aimed to promote green production by reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and lowering the carbon footprint in the manufacturing sector. The project also intended to align VET with Industry 4.0 requirements, enabling graduates to be better prepared for digitalised and sustainable industrial environments. Finally, we wanted to contribute to the globalisation of vocational training by developing the training content in a common language, making it accessible to a wider audience across Europe.
▶Activities
We implemented a series of activities to achieve the objectives of the Productivity4.0 project. First, we conducted desk research and field studies to assess the current state of lean production and digital transformation in the industry. We then organized focus group meetings and workshops with industry representatives, educators, and stakeholders to identify key needs and challenges. Based on these findings, we developed an interactive, digital-based training curriculum that included lean manufacturing principles, digital production tools, and resource efficiency strategies. To support practical learning, we created an online digital data collection training kit. Additionally, we held transnational project meetings to ensure strong cooperation among partners and align the training materials with European standards. Finally, we conducted dissemination activities to promote the project outcomes, share best practices, and encourage widespread adoption of lean and digital production methods in VET institutions and the industry.
▶Impact
The Productivity4.0 project produced several concrete outputs and impactful results. We developed an interactive digital training curriculum that integrates lean manufacturing principles, digital production tools, and resource efficiency strategies to enhance vocational education and training (VET). As part of this curriculum, we created an online digital data collection training kit to help students and industry professionals monitor and optimize production processes. Through focus group meetings and workshops, we gathered industry insights, which shaped the development of tailored course modules aligned with Industry 4.0 requirements. Additionally, we established a knowledge-sharing network among VET institutions, companies, and academic partners to support continuous improvement in lean and digital transformation practices. Our dissemination efforts, including presentations, reports, and social media outreach, helped raise awareness about green production, waste reduction, and digital transformation in the manufacturing sector.
