Kvízomat aneb Zachráníš mě?

We consider the topic of first aid to be a very important and necessary part of general education for children and youth. Based on long-term cooperation and communication with schools, a need emerged to create project days and a quiz platform for youth aged 13 and older. Since this is a more demanding age group, we decided to implement the project in collaboration with an experienced international partner. Thanks to double validation with youth in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, we were able to identify and correct more errors and ambiguities. As there is currently a strong emphasis on transitioning activities to online environments across all areas of life, we have also chosen this format for our project.

The aim of the project was to strengthen the knowledge of youth aged 13 and older in the field of first aid and health education through several activities. A specific goal was to create an educational module, which was subsequently tested in 30 lower secondary school classes in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The acquired knowledge was then verified using the Quizomat and a first aid competition.

Methodology for First Aid Education – As part of this activity, a first aid handbook and instructional videos were created. Specifically, five videos were produced on the following topics: unconsciousness, choking, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), CPR with AED, and bleeding. Children’s Education – During the 2023/2024 school year, 15 primary schools in the Czech Republic and 15 schools in Slovakia were trained. The project days focused on teaching first aid in an interactive way and were intended for 8th-grade students. Quizomat in Schools – In December 2024, an online competition took place, involving 449 students from 27 schools. Prior to the competition, online meetings with teachers were held to address the technical setup of the event. International Competition – The first aid competition was held on two dates: May 20, 2025, in Žilina and May 27, 2025, in Třinec. The competition had a unified format in both cities. A total of 22 schools participated – 13 in Žilina and 9 in Třinec. Based on evaluation and feedback, several factors were identified that influenced lower school participation: staff changes at schools, end-of-year workload and low student motivation after completing entrance exams. The project “Quizomat – Will You Save Me?”, implemented within the Erasmus+ programme, delivered a number of tangible outcomes aligned with its planned objectives: - A developed and tested model of project days in schools, - First aid teaching materials created and made freely available to teachers - Project days carried out (15 in the Czech Republic and 15 in Slovakia) for 8th-grade students. - Teacher feedback – Teachers provided positive feedback, particularly appreciating the practical training and the individual approach enabled by dividing students into smaller groups - Knowledge tests conducted before and after the project days, which demonstrated an increase in students’ knowledge levels - Online first aid competition involving 449 students from 27 schools - The competition was prepared bilingually, with technical support and guidance for teachers - International first aid competition held on two dates: May 20, 2025, in Žilina and May 27, 2025, in Třinec - Feedback collected from both students and instructors Additional results and benefits:Increased digital readiness of schools and support for online education,Development of teachers’ competencies in first aid and the use of digital tools,Creation of a transferable model
