Objectives

The project aimed to increase knowledge, digital skills, interest and use of new technologies specifically in 3D printing and 3D design as a means of enhancing STEM and STEAM education. Our primary objective was to train and empower educators with the tools, resources, and confidence to introduce 3D printing into their classrooms, ensuring that students gained both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience. We wanted to create new educational materials and curricula that could be adapted for hybrid and blended learning, while also building a sustainable digital platform (LMS) to extend access beyond the project’s lifetime. Another core objective was to provide students with practical training, linking 3D printing to real-world applications and professional opportunities. By targeting disadvantaged schools in rural areas, we sought to reduce inequality in access to innovative technologies. The project's primary objectives were to increase digital readiness, spark interest in STEM fields, and foster creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among young learners, while strengthening the capacity of educators and schools to embrace digital transformation.

Activities

Activities implemented were: A1. Project website and social media presence: The project website was created to share information, materials, and news. Dissemination was also carried out through Facebook and Instagram page. A2. LMS Learning Management System setup and adaptation: Online classroom was developed, including presentations, workshop materials and quizzes with certificates. A3. Identification and selection of educators and topics of interest: A questionnaire was distributed to educators to identify teachers interested in training, topics of interest and the current status of schools, 67 responses were collected. A4. Development of educational and training materials: Promotional materials were created to attract participants. Five focus topics were developed into 20 presentations, and quizzes, translated into English, Greek, and Macedonian, and adapted for synchronous (physical and online) and asynchronous learning. A5. Training of educators and pilot sessions with students: 15 sessions were organized, combination of physical, online and hybrid. In total, 528 participants attended and more than 250 students were then trained by their educators. Project was also disseminated though 5 events with multiple participants.

Impact

The ESTEM – 3D project delivered strong, concrete results and exceeded its initial objectives. A dedicated project website and active social media channels on Facebook and Instagram were created to ensure continuous visibility and dissemination. Project was also promoted through partners’ networks, LinkedIn pages, and EU platforms such as the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform and EPALE. A Quality Assurance strategy was implemented to maintain consistency and high standards throughout all activities. Based on the educator questionnaire, the consortium identified key training needs and developed 20 comprehensive educational presentations across five focus areas, along with workshop materials and quizzes. All resources were uploaded to the online classroom (www.learn.estem-3d.eu), which includes automated certificate generation for successful quiz completion. A total of 528 participants were trained, far beyond the original target. Additionally, more than 250 secondary school students were educated by the trained teachers, expanding the project’s impact. Five major dissemination events across partner countries further increased outreach and strengthened engagement with the wider educational community.
