Objectives

The aim of the project was to provide educators and others who work with preschool children with a tool that they can use in their work. The tool, which is freely available, is comprehensive, but at the same time diverse and colorful, thus attractive to children. They can go through the activities gradually or pull out individual worksheets that are suitable for their purpose. They can use them when working with a group or individually, with children who are intact in general development, or with children with learning difficulties, when the activities of the suitcase can help with the development of a specific area. In one place, they find both a theoretical explanation and a whole range of recommendations for further playful activities. Through this support, we contribute to the development of children's early skills, support their communication, influence the initial level with which they enter education and social interactions, thereby positively influencing their future level of development, possibilities of employment and overall life satisfaction.

Activities

The project resulted in the Speech Therapy Suitcase - a comprehensive set of activities and teaching aids for preschool education created by a group of Czech and Slovak speech therapists and verified in practice in Czech and Slovak kindergartens. Teachers from partner kindergartens had the opportunity to work with the Speech Therapy Suitcase for 3 months as part of individual and group work with children and subsequently, through feedback and discussion with the authors, contribute to the final version of the Suitcase. The Suitcase includes a methodological guide that contains instructions on how to work with the Suitcase, warnings about the most common mistakes, tips for further activities and information on the theoretical background of the development of language, speech and communication in the preschool period. The information about the project, including outputs for free download, is available on the project website. The websice aslo contains a blog section with interesting related information. The content of the Suitcase were presented at the project workshops, face-to-face and online, and the recording of the online workshop is available on the project website.

Impact

The project has 4 main outputs. The first is the Speech Therapy Suitcase itself. The Suitcase contains colorful picture cards with oral motor exercises, more than 200 picture cards for vocabulary and worksheets for the development of the phonetic-phonological, morphological-syntactic, lexical-semantic and pragmatic language levels. It includes two finger puppets - boy and girl characters who accompany children through the Suitcase activities. (Second) An integral part of the suitcase is the methodological guide, which contains instructions on how to work with the Suitcase activities, as well as a theoretical part introducing readers to the development of individual language levels and information on how to support this development. Here they will also find warnings about common mistakes and tips for further activities. (Third) Participants in two face-to-face workshops and one online workshop led by the authors of the Suitcase had the opportunity to see the Suitcase in practice. (Fourth) The information about the project and the Speech Therapy Suitcase, including a wide range of related information and downloadable materials, is available on the project website.
