Training Schoolteachers to Sustain Students with Adverse Childhood Experiences

Adverse Childhood Experiences (e.g., experiencing or witnessing violence, abuse, substance use, mental health problems) cause students who have lived them to behave in a way to preclude satisfying quality and results of everyday school life. The SUSTACE project aims at setting up an e-training course with which teachers can acquire educational strategies to tackle consequences of Adverse Childhood Experiences at school and to implement training of trainers and multiplier training courses.

The SUSTACE project includes four activities: 1) Transnational desk research on school and Adverse Childhood Experiences carried out by the project research staff. 2) Creation of the SUSTACE e-training course (in English, Czech, German and Italian). 3) Training of schoolteachers through the SUSTACE e-training course (Training of Trainers). 4) Multiplier training courses, for massive groups of teachers and other school staff, carried out by the teachers trained during the Training of Trainers.

Expected results of the SUSTACE project are: - Availability of the transnational research 'School education and Adverse Childhood Experiences' in English, Czech, German and Italian. - Availability of the SUSTACE e-training course in English, Czech, German and Italian. - 180 schoolteachers trained in the partner countries. - Establishment of a training network involving the project partners. - Increased awareness on Adverse Childhood Experiences for public educational authorities.
