Data literate citizen are inevitably for a vibrant democracy. Therefore the main focus of the DataSETUP project is to promote Data Science literacy in schools by enhancing the professional knowledge of student teachers in the field of Data Science Education. To achieve this objective, the project aims to draw attention towards the integration of Data Science into teacher education curricula at the university level from multiple disciplines.

DataSETUP will create a scientific framework for Data Science teacher education. The framework will guide development of education materials and inform creation of teaching modules. Implementation and evaluation of teaching modules, and subsequent creation of assessment tools, will be framed by Design-Based Research. An online multi-purpose learning platform will support networking activities, facilitate improvement of modules, and aid the dissemination of materials.

DataSETUP will advance Data Science Education for teacher education through the development of a scientific framework and project outputs such as (digital) tools, data sets and modules targeting Data Science education. Assessment tools will monitor the development of modules and support supervision of student teachers’ learning processes. An online learning platform will ensure accessibility of materials, enable communication and collaboration, expand existing networks and support dissemination.
