▶Objectives
The primary objective of this project was to support the mental well-being of new mothers by developing tools that help them actively manage their mental health. Partner organizations collaborated to share best practices and create art-based, inclusive resources offering alternative ways to relieve post-natal stress. The project also promoted peer-to-peer learning, strengthening collective knowledge. By the end of the project, partners were better prepared to address mental health challenges using flexible tools tailored to individual needs. It also aimed to reduce isolation among new mothers by improving access to supportive resources. A key outcome was the creation of a sustainable open-source tool for mothers across Europe. Specific objectives included: *Promoting mindfulness and stress-relief to help mothers reconnect with themselves. *Integrating art-based methods into digital platforms suited to mothers’ routines. *Using the arts to promote inclusion and adaptable mental health support. *Addressing well-being through a needs-based approach grounded in real experiences. The project leaves behind practical tools that continue to support mothers, building their resilience and well-being.
▶Activities
- We implemented 6 workshops to pilot activities from the handbook - We collected feedback from the mothers and the facilitator about the activities - We disseminated the art activities on social media and created a final video to advertise the project - We disseminated the sessions on social media, through Eventbrite and in local community groups
▶Impact
The EMERGE project produced several concrete outputs and positive results. One of the main outputs was a handbook of creative wellbeing activities designed for new mothers. It included simple, accessible exercises using art and self-expression to support emotional health. The handbook was tested during the project and refined based on participant feedback. It continues to be used locally after the project ended. We also organized a series of creative sessions in Cork, where mothers could connect, share experiences, and reduce stress through creative activities. These sessions were well-received, and demand was so high that we continued offering them beyond the project's timeframe. The project successfully engaged mothers from diverse backgrounds, many of whom previously had limited access to similar support. This inclusivity was a key achievement. Additionally, project staff enhanced their skills in inclusive facilitation and creative wellbeing methods, while the initiative raised local awareness about the importance of maternal mental health.
