Summary

We applied for the 'Fit for the Future' project to respond to several pressing needs in vocational education. First, we identified a significant gap in digital skills, with many students lacking the competencies required for emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data Analytics. As these skills are crucial for future employability, the project aimed to prepare students for the evolving labor market and upskill them in a most practical way. Secondly, we recognized the need for improved communication and language proficiency and technical terminology, which is essential for international collaboration and career development in today’s globalized world. Many students lacked opportunities to use English in practical, real-world contexts and are not familiar with digital terms. Lastly, we wanted to address the growing importance of intercultural competence. With increasing globalization, students must learn how to effectively communicate and collaborate with peers from different cultural backgrounds. The project’s cross-border collaboration between German and Turkish students was designed to foster this understanding, ensuring that students are prepared to work in diverse, multicultural environment

Objectives

The primary objectives of the 'Fit for the Future' project were to equip vocational students with essential digital skills and to foster intercultural competence. Specifically, we aimed to: Enhance Digital Competencies: Provide students with hands-on experience in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data Analytics to prepare them for the future job market. Improve Communication and digital literacy: Integrate English and technical terminology into the learning process, allowing students to use it in practical, real-world contexts, especially in technical and vocational tasks, to strengthen their communication skills. Promote Intercultural Understanding: Encourage cross-border collaboration between German and Turkish students, helping them to work effectively in diverse cultural environments, develop intercultural communication skills, and build international teamwork experience. Support Career Readiness: Align vocational training with labor market needs by focusing on the skills necessary for students to succeed in a globalized and digital workforce.
