Objectives

Through the research work of the project partners, company visits and by studying specialist wood technology journals, those involved in the project can identify the specific digital needs of the companies and utilise them for the project. Trainees, teachers and foremen in the school workshops learn about new digital tools and working methods and can promote the dissemination of new digital content and methods in their countries. The physical cooperation in the workshops is supported by the communication exchange of all partners via digital platforms (MS Teams), so that a constant exchange of information in English takes place between the partners involved in the project, other vocational schools and the associated partners. All partners have also learnt from each other in the didactic and methodological area and will continue to do so. The European network of participating vocational schools and training companies will be consolidated. The VET providers in the countries will familiarise themselves with new digital content for the vocational training of carpenters and contribute to a broad transfer of digital skills in the countries.

Activities

During the project period, a total of 8 activities, each lasting 5 working days, were carried out at different vocational schools of the partners. Two trainees and two teachers (192 in total) took part in each activity at each partner school. In addition, three transnational meetings were held to evaluate, coordinate and further plan the project activities. The starting point for each activity was the task of producing furniture using digital and conventional tools and machines. The tasks and the use of digital tools were planned and implemented from the simple to the complex (5-axis CNC, Shapertool, Flexijet, 3-D printer, 3-D CAD). Two-hour online meetings (MS Teams) were held between the trainees and teachers in virtual rooms to prepare for and follow up on the project tasks. Before and during the activities, the trainees worked with the teachers to develop short documentation videos and teaching/learning videos on the digital tools used in the manufacturing processes. At the end of each activity, the participants carried out an evaluation to assess the activity carried out and the newly acquired digital skills. (Results: https://digitaljoiner.com)

Impact

As part of the activities, four teams continuously produced high-quality furniture or components (benches, small cabinets, chairs, lamps, coat racks, Systainers, bar tables, window frames). A manual describing the digital tools and machines used in wood technology is another output of the project. A second manual on teaching digital content using various teaching materials was created jointly by trainees and teachers. Both manuals have been translated into six languages and uploaded to E+PRP, where 16 documentation and teaching/learning videos can also be found. The trainees and teachers have posted the technical drawings of the products on the project group's website (digitaljoiner.com\Media\drawings). Didactic suggestions for expanding the digital content of the curricula of the federal states and a module design for the implementation of digital content in the classroom with eight modules were sent to the institutions of the federal states and TSD Germany. The Instagram account erasmus.joiner.4.0 has been implemented and is currently well frequented. Activities were carried out and products manufactured in line with Green Erasmus.
