Objectives

The project aimed to develop ways of identifying, documenting, and certifying key skills acquired during project work at both schools. To this end, methods were to be developed to help teachers highlight these skills, and a certificate was to be created that could be awarded in addition to the final school reports.

Activities

The project was characterized by intensive conceptual work and exchange between the project management (education foundation) and the two partner schools in Germany and Denmark. Numerous virtual workshops were held and a German delegation visited the partner school in Denmark twice. As soon as the initial findings were translated into methods and tools, these were implemented at both partner schools and tested and evaluated together with students and teachers. In addition, school administrators, parents, local businesses, and other stakeholders were informed about the project and involved in its development. Finally, a certificate was developed that can be presented with the final diplomas and is intended to demonstrate the skills acquired. All considerations and results were also scientifically evaluated.

Impact

One key result is the reflection tool: a competency grid (in German and English) has been developed with a modular design that can be used as a self-assessment tool before and after project work to visualize students' competency development (identification and documentation of competencies). In addition, a guide for teachers was created to assist them in using the tool (in German and English). Another result is the competency certificate: The certificate was designed by an agency based on the specifications from the project. It is also modular in terms of design and content and can be adapted to the corporate design of different schools and to different target competencies (certification of competencies). The project and the findings gained from it have also been presented at conferences in the foundation sector and in academia and discussed in two scientific articles that will be published shortly.
