▶Objectives
We aimed to identify and understand the barriers to inclusion and diversity in vocational education and training (VET) schools, particularly for students with fewer opportunities. By developing a question framework and applying it across five partner VET schools in Europe, we gathered direct feedback from students. This helped both the schools and the project gain actionable insights and improve our practices to foster a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.
▶Activities
We built capacity and formulated key questions to address barriers to inclusion and diversity (ID). These were tested across five European vocational schools using the micro-surveys we designed within the project. Using these micro-surveys, we collected almost 75,000 data points, which was our target. The data provides insights into relevant barriers and effective practices for overcoming them. Both StudentPulse and XARXA actively contributed to the implementation of the micro-surveys at the VET schools. Additionally, we developed a white paper and organized a webinar to support the schools in adopting the right survey questions.
▶Impact
The project delivered a validated set of survey questions that vocational schools can use to identify and address barriers to inclusion and diversity. It also built capacity among participating partners working with vulnerable youth and showcased how technology can be effectively used to collect insights and remove barriers. These outputs are expected to have a lasting impact by promoting more inclusive and diverse learning environments in vocational education across Europe and beyond.
