Summary

One of the main aims was to promote the use of Big Data by using free hardware accessible and user-friendly techniques. Another aim was to increase equal opportunity and combat discrimination. It should be noted that discriminatory treatment comes from fear and ignorance that lead to prejudices linked to rejection. We therefore deem that knowledge is the best antidote against discrimination. But, In current education, immersed in digital transformation, understanding of digital techniques and tools is greatly needed in order to process and analyze a great deal of data. We consider that the use of real data can be a means to increase socio-cultural awareness among the participants. With creating datasets on specific topics, we wanted to promote the use of truthful information, increasing ethical and cross-cultural values that should lead citizens committed to their surroundings. The purpose of generating datasets linked to the diverse countries involved in the project was to enhance the knowledge of other cultures so that the richness of Europe’s cultural diversity could be properly understood.

Objectives

Mainly: addressing the digital transformation through the use of Big Data and the awareness of the importance of using truthful information to generate scientific analysis on science, art, development cooperation, multiculturalism, inclusion, empowerment of women in STEAM disciplines, democratic values and diversity of the European countries. Specifically: increasing knowledge and importance of data digitalization; improving the employability and employment approach of students to the labor market; fostering the fight against planned obsolescence by recycling electronic and IT equipments; promoting digital skills and capabilities for innovation and business entrepreneurship by stimulating the participants with fewer opportunities and encouraging female students to take an interest in STEAM fields; fostering knowledge about European common, democratic and civic values among participants in the project; boosting awareness of reducing, recycling and reuse of IT equipments, clothing, books, etc.; discovering and sharing new forms of digital teaching during visits to each country and making participants aware of the importance of realizing collaborative projects with regions affected by natural disasters and/or developing countries.

Activities

In order to capacitate participants to tackle successfully challenging computing tasks related to the creation of Dataset, there have been training sessions -online and on-site meetings in the mobilities- about Data mining techniques to empower all partners in creating forms and organizing information in spreadsheets. Next, having established the importance of a deep understanding of the application of statistics, participants started to gather specific data in their respective countries. Then, all the project partners implemented their computing skills by practicing how to create arff files. Participants have also been visiting institutions and companies closely related to Big Data in the different countries. On the other hand, several recycling workshops have been carried out in which participants have learned how to proceed in order to give a second life to many varied materials. These cultural programmes and all the collaborative activities mentioned have broadened our personal perspective on other cultures and traditions, which contributes to bringing European citizens closer together and strengthening the bond between them.

Impact

Students and teachers have created a large dataset on EU knowledge. And a second test to measure their digital skills. More than 3.000 people answered the questions and the survey results were analyzed. In addition, a health dataset with blood pressure measurements and physical data of more than 100 people was made at the mobility of Croatia to then analyse them. In the different upcycling workshops, attendees have elaborate diverse items from varied materials and customized second hand clothing. These crafts have been sold in charity scholar markets and all the money obtained has been used for NGOs projects. The coordinator team has created different training materials about the WEKA platform (tutorials, tests, practices, etc.) as well as a website in which they have been sharing all these materials, and Spanish teachers have developed a Java application to process and display the UE test. On the other hand, each school has carried out research about a particular topic, elaborated a dataset, analyzed the data and made the results known.
