Objectives

We wished to encourage a multicultural society by promoting language learning through theatre creation; to give everyone the chance to develop their multiple identities in consideration of the other; to strengthen a learning community with an innovative pedagogy at the service of 21st century skills: collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, communication.

Activities

We organised three international meetings bringing together, among others, foreign language drama teachers, with two main objectives: to develop and disseminate appropriate tools for these methods (methods, exercises, skill sheets) and to consolidate the learning community (assistance from communication specialists, co-development workshops based on the Champagne and Payette methodology, development of a collaborative platform, joint creation of educational videos). Tests were conducted in situ (France and Italy) and online workshops highlighted the complementarity of the Thealingua method with other methods, approaches and tools (e.g. Tandem, Film Ensemble) or supported the continuation of research and writing/translation work.

Impact

A formalisation of methods for language acquisition through drama and the promotion of multilingualism: - The Thealingua Kit, a bilingual methodological package (French-German, representing 150 million native speakers in the EU) comprising a methodology, skill sheets and activities for language teaching and learning through theatrical creation, including a multilingual workshop. The Kit presents a selection of the basics, updated and translated by a team of French- and German-speaking theatre educators. This Kit also opens up avenues for linguistic democratisation through creative multilingual practices. A set of videos further popularises the kit with its three main themes: exercises, know-how (here: the Thealingua workshop in an ‘Inside Out’ version), and the method explained in detail by experts. A strong, lively, innovative educational network, ready to act and expand: - The collaborative platform www.communauteapprenante.com cultivates links (member network) and resources open to all around four themes: theatre, body, languages and creativity in learning. It is a transdisciplinary educational network based on a proven methodology. - Other meetings planned for 2025 and 2026
