Objectives

The main objective of implementing this project was to engage learners in concrete and scientific actions aimed at reducing water consumption while raising awareness about its environmental challenges. We wanted to enable students to understand the impacts of climate change on water resources and to think about solutions for saving this resource through experiments and digital applications. We wanted to show them that water is a precious resource that impacts our meals, agriculture, etc. The students observed edible plants and created recipes using these local plants, known as "incredible edibles." The project was also intended to develop students' digital skills by allowing them to document, share, and analyze the results of experiments using digital tools and collaborative platforms. For example, students were able to practice calculating their carbon footprint using software. Finally, through this project, the focus was placed on cooperation between students and teachers from France and Estonia, fostering the exchange of ideas, teaching practices, and teamwork.

Activities

Each activity implemented aimed at achieving a greater understanding of environmental issues. At the beginning of the project, students conducted a water consumption diagnosis in their schools in France and Estonia. This involved analyzing the amount of water consumed, comparing the data with global averages. Water consumption in Estonia is very high. This activity initiated a reflection on water management and waste. The reuse of rainwater, the impact of ocean acidification with experiments on water acidity by immersing chalk in a liquid that reveals pH, and the reduction of hot water usage to decrease greenhouse gas emissions were explored. In groups, students proposed solutions to save water in our schools. This included actions such as installing aerators on taps (which were not approved by the local council) and placing bricks in toilet tanks to reduce water usage. In pairs, they calculated their carbon footprint... the issue of travel during mobilities was central to the discussion. Edible plants were observed and researched as a way to nourish oneself while respecting resources.

Impact

Several accomplishments were implemented: -Annual water consumption diagnosis to compare and assess the daily efforts made. -Students conducted scientific experiments to demonstrate the importance of water conservation and its impact on the environment (ocean acidification/climate change). -Sharing results within the two schools: The results of the experiments were presented to all students during EMC sessions -Sharing with families to encourage them to adopt eco-friendly habits daily to reduce their water consumption. -Creation of a recipe collection with the incredible and numerous edible plants. -Hybrid travel plan for future mobilities (plane and train or ??).
