Our goal was to raise awareness, train and equip local actors so that they could create welcoming, learning and working environments that are accessible to everyone. Through their commitment, retailers, trainers and Chamber of Commerce staff became key enablers in opening the world of rural commerce to people with disabilities — our indirect target group. Beyond training, we aimed to change mindsets and foster a lasting culture of inclusion, where every economic actor, regardless of size or location, contributes to building fairer, more supportive and more human territories. MINDFUL sought to go beyond practical tools by inspiring a collective movement toward empathy, accessibility and equal opportunity within rural communities. By empowering professionals at the local level, the project helped ensure that inclusion is not seen as an obligation but as a shared value — one that strengthens both businesses and communities. In this way, MINDFUL has laid the foundation for a sustainable, human-centered approach to rural economic development, where diversity becomes a true source of growth and cohesion.
