Objectives

The main objective of the Careers for Carers (CforC) project was to address recruitment challenges in the elderly care sector by developing innovative tools to attract, raise awareness and train young people (aged 18-29) in these professions. The project therefore targeted young people who were interested or potentially interested in the field of elderly care and who wished to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge. The specific objectives of the project were: 1) to use gamification to introduce young people to the themes and field of elderly care, 2) to provide e-learning training modules to acquire the basic knowledge required to move towards qualifications for these professions, 3) to develop a booklet of good practices and advice for building a career in the field of elderly care.

Activities

The implementation of the project was divided into five work packages (WPs), including a ‘Project Management’ WP and an ‘Impact and Dissemination’ WP. WP2 ‘Escape Game’ consisted of the preliminary design (A2.1), then the development and testing (A2.2-A2.4) of an escape game before the project's target groups participated (A2.6) in this tool. This escape game was intended to be an innovative tool to attract young people aged 18 to 29 (students, students in a care-related field, unemployed people, NEETS) to careers in personal care, particularly elderly care. WP3 ‘Training’ consisted of the development (A3.1-A3.5) of e-learning training content on the basics of elderly care for the project's target groups. The aim was to follow up on the escape game by giving them the keys (A3.7) to start taking an interest in careers in elderly care. WP4 ‘Career counselling and best practice booklet’ consisted of the development (A4.1-A4.3) of a booklet serving as a guide for young people wishing to build a career in the elderly care sector.

Impact

During the implementation of the project, the consortium produced four major results: 1) A virtual escape game on the reality of elderly care, designed to attract and raise awareness among young people about careers in this sector in an innovative way. 2) E-learning modules enabling learners to acquire basic knowledge before moving on to qualifications for working in elderly care professions. 3) A booklet of best practices and advice to support young people in their career guidance and development in the elderly care sector 4) A model for career guidance sessions related to care professions
