▶Objectives
EESF will develop and implement innovative learning and teaching practices in engineering education in four HEIs linked to the 2030 SDG framework. Our ultimate goal is to ensure our undergraduates (EQF 5-6) are better equipped to use their engineering knowledge to tackle societal challenges and make a lasting contribution to the realisation of the SDG’s. EESF addresses concerns about the preparedness of lecturers and the lack of sustainable development learning content in our curricula.
▶Activities
Engineering Education for a Sustainable Future will implement core activities related to 1) discovery and research and 2) teaching and learning which will lead to the production and publication of five key project results namely The Engineering and the SDGs: Discovery Report , a peer-reviewed paper, “Embedding Sustainability Competences in European HEIs”, a suite of ready to use EESF OER’s, an Educator’s Guide to the OER Classroom, Online and Hybrid Delivery and a European online conference.
▶Impact
Our result will improve the competencies and motivation of our engineering educators to integrate the SDGs in a way that complements and enriches existing curricula. It will mainstream the introduction of sustainability across our engineering faculties by creating ready-to-use student-centred modules, lessons and activities linked to the SDG’s. It will challenge students to embrace sustainability and apply their knowledge to real world challenges, ultimately making them more labour market ready
