Objectives

The project aimed to experiment with innovative methodologies to contribute to improving the quality of life for elderly people and preventing pathological aging through an intergenerational playful approach. The training activities contributed to the technological literacy of the elderly, allowing them to acquire practical skills that improved their autonomy and participation in community life. This led to an increase in the sense of self-efficacy among participants, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness. Neuropsychological assessments conducted at the beginning and end of the project showed significant improvements in the cognitive and emotional parameters of the elderly, validating the effectiveness of the proposed activities.

Activities

The project activities followed the established structure and timeline. The most significant component was the implementation of a playful program based on video games, selected for their environmental themes. Participants worked on simple games in the first phase (January - June 2024) and on more complex games in the subsequent phase (until March 2025), with a total of 42 meetings to maintain brain functions and evaluate the impact of activities on cognitive decline. Throughout the project, 36 elderly individuals (60 - 80 years old) worked together with young people (16 - 24 years old), facilitating the exchange of experiences. In addition to video games, informal learning workshops, walks, a photography contest, and seminars on current topics were organized. Training modules on videomaking and digital communication were also conducted, addressing the safe use of the Internet. Overall, the activities improved the quality of life for the elderly, fostering intergenerational dialogue and digital literacy. The project thus achieved the expected results, demonstrating the effectiveness of the activities and their positive impact.

Impact

The We Act project achieved significant results in improving the social quality of life for the elderly and promoting intergenerational dialogue. Through the implementation of playful activities, such as video games and creative workshops, the elderly had the opportunity to actively interact with young people, creating bonds and sharing experiences that transcended generational barriers. In summary, WE ACT met its initial objectives and created a replicable model of intergenerational integration, contributing to a culture of collaboration and mutual support among different age groups.
