▶Objectives
IMAGES aimed to prevent and combat gender inequalities through a training model targeting pre-primary and primary school teachers. The project had the following specific objectives: - to improve the ability of teachers to address curriculum content from a gender education perspective - to raise awareness on gender stereotypes and prejudices and related signs; - to strengthen verbal and especially non-verbal communication skills (with particular attention to image-based communication) to prevent unconscious modes of gender discrimination; - to implement units of assessable learning outcomes; - to raise awareness of gender inequality.
▶Activities
During the project, the following activities were implemented: 1. Coordination and Monitoring to ensure the quality and full implementation of IMAGES (12 months). 2. Implementation of IMAGES training model (A2), which led to the production of methodological guidelines and teaching materials (3 months). The partnership produced a training manual that promotes a model of education from a gender perspective. The manual contains theoretical reflections and intervention suggestions for teachers, with teaching activities adapted to the different age groups of pupils and thematically diverse. 3. Field implementation of the IMAGES model: 3 pilot courses were carried out in blended mode and one course in e-learning mode, training in total and classroom activities to test the IMAGES model in the school context (9 months). A total of 251 teachers were trained. Subsequently, the teachers implemented the model in their classrooms involving over 400 pupils. 4. Dissemination activities (12 months) and realisation of the Gender Equality Awareness Campaign ‘World we want’ displayed in several locations in the two cities involved in the project.
▶Impact
At the end of the IMAGES project, the following results were achieved: - increased knowledge and skills of 251 teachers (target of training) on the topic of gender equality; - increased awareness of the importance of gender equality in children (indirect target of implementation in classrooms); - reduction of gender bias in pupils during daily teaching activities; - awareness-raising of the population on the topic thanks to the gender equality campaigns implemented by the project. Tangible results were: - a comprehensive and freely accessible handbook for teachers on the topic of gender equality, available in Italian, Spanish, Catalan and English; - 3 in-presence and online training courses; - 1 online training course with synchronous and asynchronous lessons; - Get in Contact space available on the online training platform to allow professionals to discuss and build new synergies; - online archive containing activities carried out with pupils; - 2 awareness-raising campaigns on gender equality.
