▶Objectives
Through the implementation of the STEM4Humanities project, we aimed to strengthen the relevance, quality, and impact of humanities education in higher education by integrating STEM-related skills and approaches. The main objectives were to: improve the employability of humanities students by providing them with STEM and transversal skills aligned with labour market needs; update the competences of humanities lecturers through innovative STEM-based teaching methodologies, modernising teaching practices; promote transdisciplinary learning by integrating STEM education into humanities curricula and fostering innovative teaching approaches; facilitate students’ transition into the labour market through work-based learning activities and virtual internship programmes in real business contexts; and support inclusion and gender equality, in particular by improving women’s access to skills that open up new professional opportunities. Overall, the project aimed to reduce the gap between humanities education and labour market demands by promoting innovation, interdisciplinarity, and long-term professional development for both students and academic staff.
▶Activities
To achieve the project objectives,STEM4Humanities implemented a structured set of interconnected activities. The main activities included:1Project coordination and quality assurance,to ensure effective management, continuous monitoring, and constant communication among partners throughout the entire project lifecycle.2Upskilling humanities lecturers, through needs analysis,self-assessment tools, and targetedSTEM training courses focused on innovative and transdisciplinary teaching methodologies.3Design and delivery of aSTEMlearning pathway for humanities students, aimed at developing digital, analytical, and problem-solving skills in line with labour marketneeds.4Implementation of work-based learning activities, including virtual internships and ewb learning in collaboration with small enterprises, enabling students to apply STEM competences in real working contexts.5Dissemination,exploitation,and capitalisation of results, through open educational resources, online platforms, multiplier events, and the involvement of higher education institutions and labour market stakeholders.Taken together, these activities ensured a coherent approach to integrating STEM education into humanities studies, strengthening employability, innovation.
▶Impact
The project produced a range of concrete and measurable outputs that contributed to the modernisation of humanities education and to improved employability. The main outputs and results include:1An upskilling programme for humanities lecturers, including a self-assessment tool and structuredSTEMtraining courses, which strengthened their digital, analytical, and transdisciplinary competences.2A STEM learning pathway for humanities students, designed as a modular curriculum to develop transversal, digital, and problem-solving skills aligned with labour market needs.3An e-work-based learning (e-WBL) framework, enabling students to take part in virtual internships and practical learning experiences in collaboration with small enterprises.4Open Educational Resources, including training materials, curricula, and guidelines, made freely available through online platforms to ensure the sustainability and transferability of results.5Strengthened cooperation between higher education institutions and the labour market, fostering long-term partnerships and improving students’ transition into employment.Beyond these tangible results, the project also generated broader impacts, such as increased awareness of the value of integrating STEM and humanities.
