The water management sector in Latvia and Poland is not nationally recognized and has not become strategically significant. It is perceived as a given, and insufficient attention is paid to its maintenance, the attraction of human resources, and the enhancement of competencies. No other economic sector can exist without the water management sector, while the water management sector cannot exist without competent, creative, outstanding, and knowledgeable professionals. Therefore, within the framework of this project, the development of vocational education has been initiated in accordance with the needs of the labour market in the environmental sector in Latvia and Poland.

The project promotes the development of professional education in line with the needs of the labour market in the environmental sector, thereby significantly reducing the occurrence of environmentally harmful pollution caused by humans due to acute labour shortages and fostering sustainable management in the fields of environment and water management. In implementing the project, the necessary competencies and skills in the field of water management and the environment have been identified to address the acute labour force problem; a foundation has been established for an international cooperation network between vocational education institutions and companies in the water management sector to ensure the availability of professional education that meets labour market demands; the organization and relevance of professions needed by the industry have been enhanced in accordance with labour market needs, as well as the recognition of the sector and its overall potential has been promoted.
