▶Objectives
The project aims at supporting teachers and teaching professionals to teach controversial issues in challenging classroom situations and develop key competences of teachers (to teach) as well as students (to participate in societal debates). The teaching methods should foster values clarification and values communication by using reliable data from high quality values studies and scientific explanations offering multiple perspectives.
▶Activities
Teaching methods will be elaborated, trialled, evaluated and difficulties will be explored. Videos will be compiled, guidelines developed showing good practices and addressing difficulties, trialled and evaluated. All products will be checked on the use of data/explanations, which will be added if necessary. A hands-on and a digital course will be developed, trialled and evaluated. A digital tool will be developed to make the course accessible. All products will be translated into 4 languages.
▶Impact
The results are 12 teaching methods (in 4 languages), explanatory videos/guidelines, a course (hands-on and digital) to teach controversial issues, including new data and explanations, on the website www.atlasofeuropeanvalues.eu. During the project in total 1770 (student) teacher/educators and 22.250 students at secondary schools will have worked with these deliverables. The outcomes will be implemented in the participants’ curriculum. Teachers and educators have access to a digital course.
