▶Objectives
This project aims to develop educational material and tools for medical education of complex cardiac cases, relating several medical imaging modalities, ECG, MRI, CT, echo etc. to the 3D anatomy of the heart. The 3D view on the cardiac anatomy will be further enhanced by using mixed reality, which will be a common clinical and educational tool in the near future. The project outcome will provide a blueprint for other medical courses using requiring 3D medical imaging data.
▶Activities
This project will create a unified educational tool able to visualize several imaging modalities at the same time in combination with 3D anatomical models of cardiac structures. The focus will be on combining 3D anatomical models with the different imaging modalities and ECG. Several educational clinical case studies wil be created of complex cardiac procedures, e.g. planning of surgical procedures in genetical cardiac patients, complex ablations approached, and transcatheter valve implantation.
▶Impact
The educational tool to visualize 3D anatomical models and imaging data will be publicly available for download, which provides a uniform way of discussing the 3D anatomical issues in clinical practice. Also the educational case studies will become publicly available for other institutions in the world. These outcomes will support medical education in which medical imaging plays a key role. We anticipate and will support the creation of a community of clinical educators in 3D cardiac anatomy.
