Objectives

Orientation and mobility (O&M) is one of the key areas of difficulty for people with deafblindness. Without a significant research basis or literature in this field, practitioners have had to rely only on their own experience. This project aims to increase knowledge and expertise by facilitating the exchange of ideas and experience through sharing during visits, through collection of case studies, through the development of resources, and through the creation of a network.

Activities

- Online Meetings: Sharing of information on work of different organisations - 2 face-to-face Meetings for discussion of topics with invited speakers and for practical activities such as simulation - Discussion and collection of resources, including case studies, key competencies, recommended approaches and assessment tools - Visits from each participating practitioner to one of the other partner organisations for job shadowing - Preparing to build a network to develop the work further

Impact

- A resource base of information including case studies, competencies and best practice teaching approaches - A measurable increase in involvement in orientation and mobility teaching in the partnership organisations and an increase in skills in professionals, leading to increased skills in deafblind people - The establishment of a network of professionals within the field of orientation and mobility for deafblind people
