▶Objectives
Our aim was to equip students with the skills and mindset to design sustainable solutions to real-world environmental challenges by combining STEAM and Biomimicry. Based on our needs analysis, students were highly concerned about climate issues but lacked confidence and interdisciplinary tools to act. By implementing this project, we sought to: Improve green and digital competencies, Raise awareness of nature-based strategies, Empower students to create sustainable projects, Strengthen international collaboration and cultural exchange, Promote innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, Support cross-curricular learning linked to climate action. Through four mobilities and hands-on activities, students engaged in nature-inspired design processes. The project also aimed to enhance teachers’ capacity in STEAM and sustainability education, contributing to the SDGs, EU Green Deal, and the Digital Education Agenda.
▶Activities
The project began with a Kick-Off Meeting to align objectives, set timelines, and clarify roles among partners. The first mobility took place in Türkiye, focusing on training and practice under the theme “Turn Your Face to Nature: Biomimicry”. Students explored biomimicry principles through hands-on activities and nature observation. The second mobility was hosted in Copenhagen, centering on sharing good practices. Participants examined examples of art and entrepreneurship in sustainable solutions, connecting creativity with ecological awareness. The third mobility in Poland focused on the design process, where students collaboratively developed nature-inspired prototypes addressing environmental challenges. The project concluded with a Final Online Meeting to evaluate outcomes, share reflections, and plan future dissemination.
▶Impact
The project resulted in several concrete outputs and meaningful outcomes. Students from different countries worked in international teams to observe nature, apply biomimicry principles, and design sustainable solutions to environmental problems. They produced prototypes, posters, and presentations, which were shared with their peers and school communities, raising awareness on nature-based innovation. The number of student-led, nature-inspired projects increased, showing clear progress in creativity, collaboration, and sustainability-focused thinking. Students improved their entrepreneurial traits, problem-solving abilities, and digital literacy through STEAM activities. Schools evolved into centers of creative and sustainable solutions, fostering a culture of interdisciplinary learning. The project also strengthened cross-cultural cooperation and showcased the benefits of real-world, collaborative learning on global challenges.
