▶Objectives
We wanted to study together with the students how to identify and prevent bullying and especially cyberbullying and find the balance in using mobile phones. We wanted them to pay attention to the mental and physical problems that are caused by overusing mobile phones and social media. It was also important to find out other ways of spending freetime together than hanging on social media. We were hopeful that in this way the students will learn to value friendship and being together without mobile phones or social media.
▶Activities
The main activities were the planning, creation and implementing of a campaign for safer internet and social media use through making educational videos and posters.The students wrote plots for short video clips, acted all the roles and edited the films. They made also informative posters which were printed and put on the walls in the school buildings. Our campaign against cyberbullying and digital safety included also making rules for using mobile phones and activities for friendship during the breaks at school.
▶Impact
Our concrete outputs and results were the educational videos and informative posters in our campaign against cyberbullying and overusing of social media.The project logo competition made students think about our priorities and the project Instagram account includes all the activities and pictures of the project. The expected results will be better understanding of digital safety and better atmosphere at school. The students will be more aware of the impact of social media in their lives and they know how to be responsible and polite in a digital environment. We expect to see less bullying and discrimination and more respect, equality and participation. Instead of living in two worlds we would like to see us living in one united world where people are more important than mobile phones or social media.
