Objectives

The "Walking on Inner Pathways" project aimed to (1) assist adult educators at risk of burnout and (2) support disadvantaged adult learners, including the unemployed, disabled, and those in rural areas. This was achieved through two residential sessions, the creation of easy-to-use tools, and guidelines on long-term walking programs. The project focused on enhancing resilience, well-being, and workforce integration. The primary objectives were to empower both adult educators and learners with effective methods to extend their careers and improve their mental health. We created two key results: Guidelines on (Overnight) Walking (112 pages) and we developed 15 easy-to-use resilience tools and produced an artistic documentary (6 mins) about the experience, serving as an inspiration for future walking programs. These results will help promote sustainable mental health practices and resilience within adult education and learning environments.

Activities

To implement the project, we carried out the following activities: Heartland online course: Prepared participants for the residential course and extended the newly gained tools to support their resilience and well-being. "Inner Pathways" seminar: Held in Hungary, this seminar focused on folkstale therapy and storytelling as methods for enhancing well-being and empowerment among adult educators. "Pilgrimage on Sustainability" training: Aimed at creating walking educational programs, this training was deeply rooted in the myth and legend heritage of the land and people, offering a holistic approach to sustainability and mental health. Online follow-up and dissemination: Ensured the continuous engagement of participants by sharing project results online, including the expanded Heartland online course, resilience tools, and guidelines for walking programs. These activities were designed to foster resilience, well-being, and long-term career sustainability for both educators and learners.

Impact

The "Walking on Inner Pathways" project produced several key outputs: Application of Heartland Online Course: This preparatory course supported the participants' resilience and well-being, providing an accessible learning platform for adult educators and learners. Guidelines for (Overnight) Walking Programs: A 112-page document offering practical guidelines to implement walking-based educational programs, aimed at enhancing mental health and resilience through outdoor, non-formal education. 15 Easy-to-Use Resilience Tools: A set of simple, practical tools designed to improve emotional resilience for adult educators and their learners, easily applicable in different educational settings. Artistic Documentary: A documentary capturing the project’s journey and experiences, serving as an inspiration for future walking programs and educational practices. Residential Seminars and Pilgrimages: Two residential sessions were held, including the "Inner Pathways" seminar 7 days for 21 adult educators (focused on folkstale therapy and storytelling) and the "Pilgrimage on Sustainability" training 12 days for 22 adult educators which incorporated myth and legend heritage in walking education.
