Promoting regional agriculture and hospitality as complementary and mutually supportive sectors for vocational students and trainers

By having created an innovative, digital, project-based methodology with all its learning materials, digital elements for trainers and students in agriculture and tourism vocational training in 3 languages (HU-IT-EN), our aim was to start a change of mindset that encourages sustainable cooperation between the above sectors both in the VET training and in the economy, too. The methodology encourages the trainers to collaborate with other sectors in the VET, and also the students can enter the labour market having learnt how to cooperate with hospitality workers, and vice versa. We wanted to sensitise them to the issue of sustainability, digitalization, which they are constantly encountering in class through the elements of the projectwork and the workbook exercises. Based on the project results, one of the long-term proposal made for the Ministries of Culture and Innovation, was building up a digital, sustainable system to make possible for agricultural schools to produce raw materials for hospitality schools. Translations into three languages make the materials accessible in all EU countries. The need for sustainability, digitalisation and the spread of project-based learning affects all countries, not only in these sectors.

We have several years of Erasmus+ mobility experience and really good network in Italy. We’ve met hundreds of HU-IT vocational and dual trainers, and we know the VET system of both countries. Based on the analysis of the feedback received from our Erasmus+ participants and 2600 members, the association has placed great emphasis on promoting cross-sectoral cooperation. There is a huge need to bring agriculture and tourism sector into line both in vocational training and in the economy,too. There have been good economical examples in Italy, mainly in Tuscany region, which has led Hungarian dual training companies to change their approach and start operating in a similar way. However, even in Italy, cooperation between the two sectors in vocational training is still in initial phase, despite the cultural endowments, so we wanted to work on this also in Italy. As a result, we agreed with an IT partner to develop a digital project-based methodology for vocational training, based on an Italian cooperation model, where students create cooperation proposals by establishing links with real businesses, using digital platforms. It is a perfect tool to kick-start cross-sectoral cooperation in schools and the spread of project-based education.
