▶Objectives
The primary objective of this project was to empower individuals aged 55 and older through lifelong learning, enhancing their skills and knowledge in ways that are relevant and accessible to their needs. One key aspect of the project was to help counsellors and facilitators better understand the unique needs of older learners, ensuring that their support was tailored to everyone’s abilities, learning style, and goals. We aimed to equip counsellors with practical tools (Guide and Toolbox) to create inclusive and accessible learning environments, where older learners could thrive. Other objectives we wanted to achieve: Institutional and staff development of 3 partner institutions thanks to the implementation of project activities and international cooperation. Promotion and dissemination of lifelong learning for people aged 55+ in partner countries and at the EU level. Expanding educational opportunities for people aged 55+. In addition, Cyprus and Poland sought to learn from the best by studying successful lifelong learning models from Sweden, which has strong statistics and outcomes related to lifelong learning for seniors.
▶Activities
1. Staff Workshops and Learning Sessions:We organized 2 workshops on topics such as Communication, Social Engagement and Andragogy. The sessions were offered in-person, one in Sweeden and one in Cyprus. Recognizing the importance of well-prepared facilitators, we provided training learning sessions of 2 staff members per partner. 2. Peer-to-Peer Learning Opportunities:To foster a sense of community and mutual support, we implemented peer-to-peer learning activities. Participants were encouraged to share their knowledge, experiences, and insights with one another, enriching the learning process while also strengthening social bonds within the group. 3. Creation of a Guide and Toolbox:A significant activity was the development of a guide and toolbox for counsellors, which included useful questionnaires and resources for assessing learners' needs. The toolbox provided strategies for creating inclusive, accessible learning environments and for offering personalized support to participants throughout their learning journey. 5. Dissemination Activities:To share the outcomes, progress and events, we utilized social media platforms to post photos and articles, keeping the wider community informed and engaged.
▶Impact
The main results of the project are the Guide and the Toolbox, which were developed to support counsellors working with older learners. These resources include practical tools and questionnaires designed to better understand learners’ needs and help create more personalized and effective learning experiences. The Guide and Toolbox have been shared with institutions, municipalities, counsellors, and other relevant stakeholders, making them available for wider use beyond the project itself. The partner organisations staff members were trained during the project. Their knowledge and skills will be added to our internal repository of expertise, and they will be actively involved in future events and initiatives related to lifelong learning. We also plan to recommend them to our clients.
