This project addresses the vulnerability of incarcerated women in European prisons, emphasizing their unique needs and advocating for a paradigm shift towards detention houses. The goal is to create, test, enhance and disseminate a virtual learning platform (Knowledge Workspace) that fosters collaboration among stakeholders and promotes knowledge exchange and capacity building. We prioritize social inclusion, gender equality, innovative learning spaces and upskilling for incarcerated women.

Activity 1 involves creating a virtual Knowledge Workspace (KW) for women in detention. A Human-Centered Design (HCD) process guides the prototype development, initiated with a workshop. Activity 2 tests and improves the KW through collaborative testing, exchange, visits, and co-creation. Activity 3 focuses on KW dissemination through online channels, a workshop, and introduction to European organizations, aiming for widespread use, quality content, and long-term sustainability.

The tangible result of the project will be a Knowledge Workspace (KW) prototype for Women in Detention, fostering multi-perspective know-how and a European community advocating for change. Intangible results include increased user capacity, skills and advocacy positions, supporting the shift from large-scale prisons to small-scale detention houses in order to better meet incarcerated women’s unique needs and vulnerabilities.
