Objectives

Marine pollution events like oil spills can impact marine wildlife. The project will support life-long learning of the EUROWA (EURopean Oiled Wildlife Assistance) network, develop new training content and enhance their capability to grow the European pool of experts trained in oiled wildlife response. It also will engage with authorities who would benefit from training on how EUROWA can help, how it can be supported and what is required to be better prepared to deliver a successful response.

Activities

The project will develop 2 new train the trainer packages for Specialist responders and roll them out at transnational training events. An online theory course will be created for Basic responders, a new Managers training module on assessment and a train the trainer support package. An authority training workshop will be organised for authorities and their EUROWA members. EUROWA network members will attend a technical network meeting. New training packages will use an active learning approach.

Impact

New training and exercise modules added to EUROWA’s life-long learning portfolio. A larger pool of qualified experts ready to respond and able to act as trainers. An increasing community of authority experts who understand the needs and benefits of their national EUROWA response experts. Strengthening a unique NGO network which aims to make a professional contribution to the professional care of marine animals that could be affected by marine pollution and consequences of climate change.
