▶Objectives
The VAL-YOU project aims at fostering education for democratic citizenship and promoting active citizenship within secondary school education in order to empower learners to recognise, respect, exercise and promote European values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and human rights. The project is based on a whole-school approach that aims to shape schools as places of democracy.
▶Activities
After defining European values and value dimensions as they can be taken up in the school context, resources and training for teachers on education for democratic citizenship will be developed. In addition, an action-oriented serious game will be created, connected to real-world contexts to demonstrate the practical relevance and significance of democractic citizenship. The final step is to pave the way for a democratic school culture through applying a whole-school approach.
▶Impact
Project results offer a holistic approach to democratic citizenship education, including analysis and definition of values and value dimensions, along with their impact on students: - A serious game as an innovative, action-oriented educational tool. - Resources and ready-to-use educational materials to support teachers in integrating democratic school education into their lesson plans. - For schools, an assessment tool to identify potential areas of change and compile an action plan.
