Objectives

METACOG strengthens AI literacy to tackle disinformation and fake news by fostering civic engagement and shared values in European societies. METACOG develops an AI literacy program to equip European citizens, particularly HEI students and teachers, with the capability to identify disinformation and fake news. The programme, equipped with relevant materials, innovative teaching methods, and best practices, acknowledges AI's dual role in both creating and countering disinformation and fake news.

Activities

METACOG will develop a practical AI literacy programme in an international consortium of students, teachers and MOOC users across 4 HEIs and 6 APs. Activities including a classroom programme, a MOOC, 4+ webinars, a teacher’s guide, a handbook, and a toolkit will be piloted and implemented with several other dissemination activities. These efforts are geared towards sharing outcomes and enhancing digital awareness on combating disinformation and fake news in European societies.

Impact

METACOG will develop an AI literacy taxonomy for using and creating reliable teaching material. The framework for teaching AI literacy in the context of disinformation will be developed. Central to our approach is the use of AI tools for disinformation detection, alongside an accessible MOOC, handbook, and toolkit for AI literacy in the context of disinformation detection. METACOG produces several other results including best practices, pilot cases, modular content design, and digital inclusion.
