▶Objectives
BLUEFRONT positions disadvantaged youth in rural and nascent aquatic EU regions, at the heart of Europe's Blue Economy to harness the benefits of the Green Deal. We aim to understand barriers of engagement with the blue economy through the eyes of youth, and empower them to lead actions that address water challenges and propose solutions. The project fills a gap in educational content on the blue economy by developing learning resources for youth to act and raise awareness on water justice.
▶Activities
BLUEFRONT develops a learning curriculum on the blue economy and advocacy skills for water justice, based on insights collected by youth community researchers. It trains youth and youth workers to propose solutions for sustainable water use and produce community actions where they disseminate these to local homes and businesses. A residency in Finland enables them to design a youth-led social media campaign that raises awareness on water use, the blue economy and EGD, and the Erasmus+ programme.
▶Impact
The BLUEFRONT curriculum fills the educational gap in blue economy and advocacy by training 100 youth and 180 youth workers who increase their environmental agency and their capacity to work on the EGD. 5 youth community projects provide sustainable water use solutions to 100 local homes and businesses, improving the resilience of rural aquatic EU regions. The youth-led social media campaign ensures greater inclusivity in climate change activism and elevates awareness amongst 5 million citizens.
