โถObjectives
Clay belongs to the oldest materials of mankind and has origins worldwide. Various constructions are known in Europe but were buried by industrialized building methods after the 20th century. Today, there is a revival of attention to clay due to its availability, its properties regarding thermal balance, vapor diffusion and load bearing. Crafting clay aims to generate new knowledge on local practises, combined it with experiments on hybrid systems with regional materials like wood, straw ect.
โถActivities
The program is structured into 5 working packages that are focussing on clay construction in different regions. Each package consists of studio work in the four schools together with shared online lectures and joint workshops to realize a real 1:1 design build project. The project is permanently development in project meetings, in which the teaching is reflected, the results discussed, and the content refined. A final symposium, book sums up the activities and allows for a broad dissemination.
โถImpact
Main focus of the program lies on the extended collaboration of the four Universities that will integrate into the different curricula on various levels. A website will be a communication tool within the partnership and allow for an extensive visibility, and attracts external teachers, researchers and practitioners. A printed publication will promote the key aspects of the program internationally, allowing for book launches, lectures on symposia, congresses presentations and research activities.
