▶Objectives
The Empowering Futures project aimed to enhance vocational rehabilitation services for individuals facing mental health challenges by strengthening collaboration among partner organisations. Its objectives were to understand the specific needs of people with mental health challenges seeking work reintegration, share best practices, and improve staff competencies. Through study visits, focus groups, and local events, the project sought to facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among stakeholders across the mental health and employment sectors.
▶Activities
The project was implemented through a set of coordinated activities designed to support mutual learning and capacity building. Two international study visits were organised in Italy and the Netherlands, enabling partners to observe best practices in vocational rehabilitation within community-based settings. Local focus groups were carried out in each partner country to assess needs and guide the development of tailored training pathways. Partners also hosted local dissemination events to share findings with professionals and community stakeholders. In addition, individual employability assessments were conducted to strengthen staff understanding of users’ learning needs and to improve the personalised support offered during job reintegration.
▶Impact
The project resulted in enhanced vocational rehabilitation practices within participating organisations, along with improved staff competencies in supporting individuals with mental health challenges as they prepared for employment. The study visits provided practical insights into effective service models, while the focus groups and individual assessments deepened understanding of users’ needs and informed the creation of future training programmes. Overall, the project strengthened collaboration and networking among stakeholders in the mental health and employment fields and laid the groundwork for more inclusive and effective reintegration pathways.
