Objectives

DIDA aims for disability-inclusive debate and advocacy. The project raises the capacity of youth work to train young people with disabilities in advocacy through debate. It brings together two fields within youth work that are currently very distant: debate-based youth work, which is strong in youth participation but currently is not disability-inclusive, and disability-based youth work, which is inclusive for disabled youth but does not have the capacity to support their participation yet.

Activities

We will develop an accessible, high quality training module that youth work organisations can use to train young people with disabilities. This module will be based on guidelines for inclusion of disabled youth in youth work, which we will develop as well. The materials will be accompanied by a train-the-trainer module, and we will disseminate the results and train youth workers during National and European Disability Debates and follow-up sessions.

Impact

Through the project, different kinds of youth work will be strengthened. Disability-based youth work will be able to train their youth in disability advocacy. Debate-based youth work will be able to include young persons with disabilities in their activities. This will thus strengthen the capacity of youth work, which will then contribute to the democratic position of young persons with disabilities on a local, national and European scale.
