NextGen Nurse aims to evaluate & implement XR in nursing education, equipping educators with digital pedagogy skills, students with immersive training & institutions with evidence-based integration strategies. The project develops, tests & refines XR-enhanced learning resources, assessing their impact on engagement, learning & clinical training. By ensuring XR adoption supports competency development & workforce readiness, NextGen Nurse aligns nursing education with evolving healthcare needs.
▶Activities
Activities include a Comparative Analysis to identify 10 XR use cases in nursing education. A Mapping & Evaluation Framework will align XR with learning objectives, measuring its impact on student outcomes, educator engagement, and institutional adoption. An XR Pilot will develop and test immersive training resources, using pre- and post-testing, comparisons with traditional methods, and cost-effectiveness analysis to refine and scale implementation.

Expected results from NextGen Nurse include equipping nursing students with hands-on XR training, enhancing educators’ capacity to integrate digital pedagogy & supporting institutions in adopting evidence-based XR strategies. The project will produce validated XR training resources, improve clinical competency development & create scalable models for XR-enhanced nursing education. It will foster a network of educators & institutions driving digital innovation in healthcare training across Europe
