MINE-POWER II wants to provide an answer to the polarisation of the daily debate on migration by orienting the younger generation towards ‘the movable middle’ and to strengthen them in this position with practical tools and handles to counter polarization. The Heusden coal mine acts as historical katalysator of migration waves while the Istanbul context is explored as a contemporary katalysator of an open, inspiring superdiverse society as gateway to Europe.
▶Activities
MINE-POWER II wants to stimulate students' awareness and criticism in 7 eTwinning sessions substantially working together on migration, framing and polarization. Local peer activities are foreseen to exchange insights and pratical tools and handles to orient or strengthen young people in "the movable middle". Three physical exchanges ensure more in-depth learning and personal growth. An online photo exhibition brings the migration frames closer to young peers and other stakeholders.
▶Impact
It is believed that the younger population grows in understanding past, present and future migration from a critical but open and respectful view. Personal growth is observable. They become more resilient for polarizing influences and are able to use tools and handles for this and pass them on to others. Experiences, insights and migration frames are being processed in an inspiring online photo exhibition.
