Objectives

1. Exploring how children’s rights and a rights-based education approach is provided for in initial early childhood education teacher training across the three partner countries. 2. Increase the competencies of students to support a rights-based education approach. 3. Enhance the competencies of academic staff to underpin their teaching of students from a children’s rights-based perspective. 4. Develop resources to support implementation of a rights-based education approach in practice.

Activities

1. Analyses of existing teacher training across the three partner countries focused on children's rights and democratic citizenship. 2. Developing training resources to support prospective ECEC teachers and HE teachers competencies in facilitating and providing rights-based approach in ECE settings. 3. Training sessions for students and academic staff. 4. Research activities (surveys, focus groups, literature review). 5. Dissemination activities (conferences, publication, social-media presence).

Impact

1. Analyses of the current status of teacher education programmes across the three countries in relation to children's rights. 2. Raised awareness of the value and importance of taking a rights-based approach to teaching and learning. 3. Increased competencies of students and academic staff 4. Developed resources for implementation of a rights-based education approach in practice. 5. Published reports on existing and future rights-based practices.
