▶Objectives
The EPO4YOUTH project aims to enhance the effectiveness of the European Prison Observatory (EPO) network in improving prison conditions and protecting the rights of young detainees. Objectives include strengthening collaboration among EPO members to monitor juvenile detention, updating research and documenting best practices through a shared database for evidence-based policymaking. The project will also advocate for civil society involvement in monitoring efforts and promote inclusive practices
▶Activities
The EPO4YOUTH project will last 30 months and will implement five work packages (WPs): WP1 – PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND QUALITY ASSURANCE WP2 - KNOWLEDGE HUB – RESEARCH, BEST PRACTICES, AND CAPACITY BUILDING WP3 - ESTABLISHMENT OF A EUROPEAN OPEN-SOURCE DATA HUB WP4 – CAPACITY BUILDING AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT WP5 - DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES AND NETWORK SUSTAINABILITY
▶Impact
The EPO4YOUTH project is expected to yield significant outcomes, including comprehensive reports on juvenile justice and best practices that will inform future policies. Capacity-building initiatives will enhance the skills of partners and stakeholders, supported by tailored materials for youth journalists to improve reporting on juvenile detention. A centralized data hub will provide accessible insights, while a sustainability roadmap will outline strategies for ongoing impact and funding.
