Objectives

The School of resilient communities project’s aim is to introduce into European schools a new model of building resilience, based on community ties and involvement, that takes into consideration both cultural and social context. We will show that successful programs supporting mental health cannot be based on individual resilience only, that the quality of community bonds among the school communities determines how flexibly they can respond and how resistant they are to changes and crises.

Activities

In-depth (including field) research will be the base for designing, iteratively preparing and implementing a comprehensive model for strengthening resilient school communities consisting of a map and a resilience toolkit, addressed to 5 groups: teachers, principals, local government, parents and students. After a pilot implementation in 30 schools in Poland, Germany and Spain, partners will train teachers and future trainers and disseminate the model widely, also among decision-makers.

Impact

An international research report followed by a functional model in 4 languages including a map of resilient school communities and a resilience toolkit – a set of diagnostic and educational materials and tools for 5 groups will be created. Training will raise the competences and awareness of 120 teachers and future trainers in 3 countries. An international conference, project website and policy paper will enable a transformation of the approach to strengthening resilience in school communities.
