Summary

StreetMotions project consisted of 2 main activities. First was organizing a traditional games & sports event in all 3 participating partner countries, and second was creating a StreetMotions sports mobile application to promote sports and physical activities. Both activities aimed to promote physical activity among people in local communities, where goal of StreetMotions mobile application is also to help all other sport clubs and organizations to better present and promoted their sport & recreation activities offered to citizens. We have chosen to organize traditional games and sports event and activities since in most cases they are simple and easy to learn and play. That allowed us to include people into activities who otherwise are not too inclined to recreation and physical activity, such as senior residents of one of Split nursing home, and volunteers from homeless shelter. During the main event in Scotland, one class of 15 students with disabilities also participated in event’s activities.Including senior population in game and props preparation, we promoted intergenerational solidarity where elderly people worked together with young volunteers where they thought them the games and helped them prepare all the props for the events. Furthermore, by promoting traditional games and sports, we helped to keep traditional legacy of our parents and grandparents, and teach young generations on ways on how they used to play and spend their free time.By presenting their local traditional games and sports as guests at partner’s main events, local population had a chance to learn more about foreign cultures which promoted idea of European values of unity and friendship. To motivate people to be more physically active, we have developed StreetMotions mobile application with innovative functions in order to achieve this goal. This included introducing “gamification model” where users receive “activity points” when they participate at local sporting events, or do any kind of physical activity. To “prove” heir physical activity application has functionality to track activities (walking, running, cycling) as well as to measure a heart rate. To further increase participation, every user joins their neighbourhood sporting tribe where they collect activity points as a group in order to see which city district is the most active. Implementation of the project had very profound impact on partner organizations in building their capacities and visibility of their work. It helped SAPC from Scotland to have even greater impact and visibility of their work in promotion of sports. They were voted best sports organization in Glasgow for 2017 and Thomas Buik received best volunteer award. By participating in StreetMotions project, CENTRO VITA raised their traditional PALIO traditional event to a new level, by making it international and lasting for 3 days. ZAJEDNO and ANIMI build their operational capacities where ZAJEDNO already had 7 additional smaller events where they have promoted StreetMotions traditional games due to a project promotion and visibility. Besides participating in events themselves they have provided the props for traditional games to various schools and organizations in order for them to organize presentation of traditional games and sports themselves. By creating the StreetMotions mobile application, ANIMI got a quality tool to promote physical activity among citizens, and help other sports organizations to better promote their activities and events to public. We are especially grateful that we had a chance to implement StreetMotions project because the idea and project activities are continuing to “live” after the project completion. StreetMotions traditional games and sports activities and events are announced to be organized again by partners in Croatia, Scotland and Italia in their own organization since now they all have experience and good cooperation with local stakeholders.
