Ball Rolls in the Same Way For All
โถSummary
The project could be summarised in two important parts that were carried out in parallel, influencing each other outputs: Dissemination part and scientific part. From the side of Dissemination, many activities were carried out. The very first actions performed by the partnership was the establishment of the official communication channels and the creation of BRISWA materials. Then, the consortium tried to obtain the interest of different sport associations, organizations and institutions by making them sign a Manifestation of Interest, that are more than 30 at the time of the end of project. The project consortium did not limit its scope to football only, but it was decided to extend the dissemination among sports in general. The reason is two-fold: racism and discrimination is a widespread problem that afflict all kind of sports, on the other hand, as dissemination of the project is a critical aspect for its success, limiting its scope to football only would be a missed opportunity of project value communication. Each partner has been very active in disseminating the project through the various tournaments and sports events that its academies participate. Furthermore, BRISWA project was promoted in more than 20 public events in all partner countries, among which:Presence in Major Football Leagues matches in SerbiaPresence in Serbian Basketball first series final season matchPresence in Romanian Futsal first series final season matchPresence in Italian Serie A championship (22-23 December 2017)Not including the International Workshops in each partners' country, that were often covered by local media with interviews, newspaper articles (local and national press) and radio shows. From the scientific side, BRISWA project has improved the knowledge about the phenomenon of racism by means of different levels of scientific research. First, UoM performed a wide literature review on racism theory and past cases in history. This activity represented the basis for all the next studies, in particolar for the development of the survey, which was spreaded among professionals and sportsmen and reached 672 answers. Then, the survey results were aggregated in a report whose insights were conveyed into the BRISWA Handbook of Racism. The project included also the development of a simulation model by making use of System Dynamics methodology. For this objective, leading academics and experts on knowledge areas about discrimination and racism phenomena were contacted. The main characteristic of those experts is that their research has to do with racism and discrimination within sports, football in particular. The session for the BRISWA project lasted for an entire day during which experts and System Dynamics modelers were in close contact. The session produced a first draft of Causal Loop Diagram. Then the model was refined and finalized by modelers and finally validated by experts. Further developments led to the creation of a simulation model that has been made available online. Finally, the project developed a training course for a nwe professional role inside the sports world. The course is oriented for who are currently working or are seeking employment for coaches, football players, psychologists, football referees, sport administrators and managers. The objectives of the course is to introduce the learners to the problem of racism in football. As a result, they will need to learn what racism is, how it has been manifested, develop strategies to mitigate the phenomenon and finally learn the necessary tools to test those policies in a consequence-free environment, before testing them in real-life.
